Madrasa Pathways

Bridging Traditional Islamic Learning and Academic Scholarship

At American Islamic College (AIC), we are proud to support students from traditional Islamic educational backgrounds through a dedicated Madrasa Pathways track. This track is designed to prepare students for success in an accredited bachelor’s degree program while honoring the strengths of their prior learning.

Who is the Madrasa Pathways Program For?

The Madrasa Pathways Program is designed for students who have completed — or substantially completed — formal Islamic studies at a traditional institution but have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. This includes:

  • Darul Uloom students and graduates, including those holding ʿĀlimiyyah or an equivalent credential
  • Significant programs of study in traditional institutions (typically 4-6 years after high school)
  • Madrasa teachers with traditional Islamic seminary training
  • Imams, chaplains, educators, and community leaders with madrasa backgrounds who want to earn an accredited undergraduate degree
  • Students who completed their religious education alongside or instead of a conventional secondary school track and are now seeking a path into U.S. higher education

This program is ideal for those who want to build on a rich foundation in Islamic knowledge by gaining the academic skills — and the accredited credential — needed to thrive in Western higher education and in professional settings that require a bachelor’s degree.

Step One: Apply for Admission to AIC

If you have studied in a traditional Islamic studies program and are interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies, the first step is to apply for admission through the Madrasa Pathways track.

Admission Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or recognized equivalent (including secondary credentials earned abroad or completed as part of a madrasa curriculum)
  • Documentation of your traditional Islamic studies program — transcripts, certificates, or a curriculum summary from your institution
  • Application form and personal statement (written independently)
  • Interview with admissions staff or faculty
  • Referral or recommendation (optional but encouraged)

Start your Application Here

*If we do not currently have a formal partnership with your madrasa, we may still consider you for admission. Please ask your madrasa to contact AIC to initiate a curriculum review and determine eligibility for the Madrasa Pathways program — and to assess whether your coursework may qualify for transfer or prior-learning credit toward your degree.

Why Choose AIC’s Madrasa Pathways?

  • Designed specifically for students from traditional Islamic backgrounds
  • Faculty who understand both madrasa and academic frameworks
  • Recognition of prior learning — your years of study count toward your degree
  • Supportive, faith-conscious learning environment
  • Structured, step-by-step pathway into accredited undergraduate study
