We are seeking a qualified, dynamic, self-starting, goal-oriented candidate to serve as the College’s Director of Mission & Development (DMD) as we grow, diversify, and evolve into a full-fledged and fully accredited university with a growing roster of undergraduate and graduate programs. The DMD is responsible for promoting the College’s Mission and Vision both on and off campus and for leading the fundraising effort for the College’s endowment, new campus, scholarships, operations, and new programs.
The DMD will support the strategic fundraising efforts of the College by working with the President and the Fundraising Committee of the BOT to design, implement, evaluate and refine the College’s development activities. As part of this effort, the new DMD will personally identify, cultivate, and steward prospective donors and plan several fundraising events throughout the year.
Qualifications & Experience:
The DMD must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and be both comfortable and capable when speaking publicly. The DMD must also be personable, energetic, responsive, and customer-service oriented.
- A BA or BS in a related or complementary field
- Experience working in non-profit fundraising and development
- Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
- Excellent writing and publi8c speaking skills
- Commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equity
- Ability to travel regularly in order to meet with prospective donors
- Willingness to manage a flexible work schedule that includes occasional availability for evening and weekend events
- Ability to work in a culturally competent manner with diverse individuals and communities
- Basic familiarity with Word, Excel, database software tools
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to cultivate and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- planning and implementing long and short range development initiatives in conjunction with the President and the College Trustees on the Fundraising Committee;
- interacting effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospective donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles and circumstances;
- conducting research, gathering data, analyzing information, and preparing effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives;
- managing the College’s donor database;
- researching and writing grant applications;
- exercising good judgment and demonstrating an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and using discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others;
- organizing and managing events and other complex activities in support of the College’s development objectives;
- fostering effective working relationships within a team environment;
- communicating and working effectively within a diverse community.
